Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary
Hello Kitty is celebrating her 50th anniversary this year. To celebrate this her creators have put up this Gigantic blow up sculpture of her and her friends in Odaiba, an artificial island in Tokyo bay. Several times a day there is a little water show and music at this site. Also there is a store with limited addition merchandise.
Several of the restaurants near the site have special menues to celebrate this cute cat. I had the Hello Kitty Lunch at a nearby hotel restaurant. I almost feelt a bit evil for destroying something so
cute, but food is meant to be eaten.
Now the restaurant was a Chinese one but it feelt very much like Chinese food, Japanese style. Hello Kittys head was made from fried rice with pork and egg. Her face is made from fried egg white and her bow is carved from a carrot. Above Hello Kittys head is a smal gratinated piece of bread topped with shrimp and cheese. And yes that is a little bunny decorating it.The taste was absolutely lovely I must add. So was the nudles in a creamy souce and topped with bell peppers. With this there was also a corn soup. Best
I’ve had in ages. But what the little Hello Kitty shaped crisp was made from I never figured out. Over to the dessert. Fruit and jelly had been shaped in to Hello Kitty and My Melodie, stars and hearts, very sweet in every sense of the word. And then there was the steamed bun, filled with sweet azuki bean paste.
